The hungarian municipalities of Gesztely and Hernádkak hosted the international workshop YOUROPE- Young europeans engaged to build the future of Europe. The town-twinning project, which took place from 23rd to 27th January, was funded by the European Union Citizens Program. In addition to the towns leader, delegations from other countries of Europe have partecipated in the project: the municipalities of Antrodoco and Gallese (Italy), Pomiechowek (Poland), Deryneia (Cyprus), Valea lui Mihai (Romania).
The five-day workshop involved international delegates in activities theoretical and interactive, aimed at stimulating reflection on the future of Europe; the programmes for citizens have been presented, the international policies and the problems that affect some countries have been discussed, the participants have been invited to propose solutions and ideas to improve the reality where we live. As the name of the project highlights, attention was focused in particular on young people, who represent the engine of renewal and therefore must be actively involved in the decision-making processes of the European Union and encouraged to take solidarity actions and volunteering.
In addition to the activities foreseen by the project, there have been also some cultural moments, that have allowed the partecipants to discover the traditions of the host countries and promote the socialization between the partners in an international atmosphere: tasting of typical food, guided tours, participation to events symbol of hungarian culture such as the Quintessence Pálinkaverseny.
